Barker House

Two business partners bought adjacent pieces of land on Block Island and asked us to design houses for them. Although related by their proximity, their simultaneous conception and the fact that their owners were friends, the houses were to be distinct and have their own personalities, like fraternal twins. Their common genes were the simple forms and rugged materials found in vernacular Block Island architecture and certain program requirements such as second floor living areas and view towers.
