A shed form presents a low, closed surface to the driving north winds, opening to the south and West for views and sun. Kalwall panels give better thermal protection and more privacy from close neighbors on the north side. The high south façade shelters decks with trelliswork. The interior layout follows the same logic, with lower and smaller support spaces lined up along the north side and with the large, glazed gathering spaces along the south. The two-story stairwell begins and ends in light, drawing visitors up in to the house. It is the focal point and anchor of all interior spaces.
