This is our fourth Block Island house. In each one we have tried to explore and bend the boundaries between indoor and outdoor living in a harsh and changeable climate by creating different degrees and types of shelter through the architecture. In this scheme two simple two-story sheds, are turned at right angles and pulled apart to make outdoor spaces that take advantage of different views. A lattice-work tower joins them and acts as a transition between indoors and outdoors and between private and public realms.
White cedar shingles, white trim, and sturdy materials follow the proven island tradition.
